SSQ In The Community 2007

In August 2007, members of SSQ's London office spent two days helping out at Spitalfields City Farm.

The farm is a volunteer-led charitable project which aims to bring the "countryside to the City".  It is the nearest farm to the Square Mile, and is home to a wide variety of animals, including ponies, goats, pigs, geese and chickens, as well as a diverse range of crops, plants and herbs.

The farm aims to educate local residents about animal welfare, healthy eating and sustainability and has achieved great success despite being located in one of the most densely populated and deprived areas of Tower Hamlets.

SSQ staff contributed by building a picket fence along one boundary of the property and also helped out with planting.  Despite the weather (which was good for ducks, but sadly not for volunteers) the two days were thoroughly enjoyable and educational.  Some photos from the two days are set out below.
